Yangon to Mandalay Itinerary

Day 1 - UK- Yangon

Make your way to London Heathrow for your flight to Yangon.

Day 2 - Yangon (Burma)

On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your ship, Princess Panhwar. Like a Local - admire the Shwedagon Pagoda with its spectacular golden spire. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner. (L,D)

Day 3 - Maubin or Yangon

In 2017 arrive after lunch in Maubin and enjoy a walking tour, during which you'll learn about the Burmese political leader, Ba Maw. You will also visit the local market. In 2018 join the walking tour of Yangon to see the magnificent British colonial buildings, Sule Pagoda and Kandawgyi Lake. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Danuphyu - Hinthata

Visit Danuphyu where the General Maha Bandula led a defensive against British troops in the First Anglo-Burmese War. Discover the Monastery of Maha Bandula and visit a home cheroot-making workshop, before cruising to Hinthata. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Myanaung

Enjoy a guided walking tour past colonial houses and a bustling market in the riverside township of Myanaung. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Pyay (Prome) - Sri Ksetra

Admire spectacular views of the Akauk Mountains as you cruise towards Pyay. Disembark for a walking tour. See magnificent pagodas including the Shwesandaw Pagoda before heading to the ancient ruins at Sri Ksetra. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Thayetmyo

Princess Panhwar cruises to the port town of Thayetmyo which was once on the British colonial border between Upper and Lower Burma. Stroll along the streets admiring the colonial architecture. You can also visit Burma's oldest golf course, established in 1887. (B,L,D)

Day 8 - Minhla - Magwe

Visit Minhla fort before cruising to Magwe, home to a fascinating market and the Myathalon Pagoda. (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Salay

Princess Panhwar cruises to the village of Salay. Explore Yoke Sone Kyaung, the region's oldest surviving wooden monastery, and join the guided tour of the town. (B,L,D)

Day 10 - Tantkyi Hill, Bagan

Climb Tantkyi Hill to visit Tantkyitaung Pagoda encircled by elephant statues. Later, visit the revered Ananda Temple at sunset. (B,L,D)

Day 11 - Bagan

Enjoy a full day exploring the awe-inspiring archaeological site of Bagan. Visit the golden Shwezigon Pagoda and Gubyaukgyi Temple, a spectacular cave temple with an Indian-style spire. (B,L,D)

Day 12 - Yandabo

Enjoy a tour of Yandabo, the site where the Treaty of First Anglo-Myanmar War was signed. It is famous for its terracotta pots made from riverbank clay. (B,L,D)

Day 13 - Inwa

Enjoy a horse-drawn cart tour in the ancient imperial capital of Inwa and see the 'Leaning Tower of Inwa'. This evening enjoy a cultural show by the Mandalay fine arts school. (B,L,D)

Day 14 - Sagaing - Mingun

Visit a silversmith's workshop in Sagaing before exploring various temples and monasteries. Later, cruise to Mingun, home to the magnificent 18th-century Mingun Pahtodawgyi as well as the Mingun Bell. (B,L,D)

Day 15 - Mandalay

Like a Local - visit Mahamuni Buddha Temple and perhaps add a sheet of gold leaf to a statue of the Mahamuni Buddha. Afterwards, enjoy a tour of the Shwenandaw Monastery and visit Kuthodaw Pagoda. Like a Local - enjoy a sunset stroll (2017) or boat ride (2018) along U Bein Bridge. Tonight there is a Farewell Dinner on board. (B,L,D)

Day 16 - Mandalay - UK

Disembark Princess Panhwar and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)

Day 1 - UK - Mandalay (Burma)

Make your way to London Heathrow for your flight to Mandalay.

Day 2 - Mandalay

Arrive in Mandalay and transfer to the stylish Princess Panhwar. Enjoy lunch on board, before spending the afternoon at leisure. Welcome Dinner on board this evening. (L,D)

Day 3 - Mandalay

Like a Local - Visit the Mahamuni Buddha Temple where you might get the opportunity to add your own sheet of gold leaf on a statue of the Mahamuni Buddha. Later, explore a range of workshops. Afterwards, tour the Shwenandaw Monastery, visit the Kuthodaw Pagoda and climb Mandalay Hill for spectacular views over the city. Like a Local - Stroll along U Bein Bridge. (B,l,D)

Day 4 - Sagaing - Inwa

Visit Soon U Ponya Shin and Kaunghmudaw pagodas in Sagaing before heading to a silversmith's workshop. Later, cruise to the ancient imperial capital of Inwa where you can enjoy a tour, taking in Maha Aung Mye Bon Zan and Bagaya monasteries. Tonight, enjoy a cultural show on board. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Yandabo - Bagan

Visit the pottery-making village of Yandabo, famous for its terracotta pots. Back on board, get your first glimpse of Bagan, one of the world’s truly awe-inspiring archaeological sites. The remainder of the afternoon is spent at leisure. This evening, enjoy a puppet show on board. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Bagan

Visit the bustling Nyaung-U market, Ananda Temple and Shwezigone Pagoda, before heading to the Gubyaukgyi Temple, a 13th-century cave temple with an Indian-style spire, and a lacquerware workshop. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Tantkyi Hill - Salay

This morning, climb Tantkyi Hill and visit the Tantkyitaung Pagoda, encircled by elephant statues. Following lunch back on board, cruise to the village of Salay. Visit Yoke Sone Kyaung, the region's oldest surviving wooden monastery. The village is also home to Shinbin Maha Laba Man Paya, the largest lacquer Buddha image in Burma. (B,L,D)

Day 8 - Magwe

Sail downstream to the sleepy delta town of Magwe where you can visit the market. This afternoon, head to the Mya Tha Lun Pagoda before returning to the ship for dinner and a puppet show. (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Minhla - Thayetmyo

Stop in Minhla, the site of a significant battle during the Third Anglo-Burmese War, the inspiration for a Rudyard Kipling Poem. Take a small boat to the Gwechaung and Minhla forts, built to keep British forces out of Burma. Later, cruise to Thayetmyo, which was once on the colonial border between Upper Burma and Lower Burma. Visit Burma's oldest golf course. (B,L,D)

Day 10 - Thayetmyo - Pyay (Prome)

See a selection of gilded pagodas this morning, including the Shwesandaw Pagoda, before cruising to Sri Ksetra. Admire the stupas and temples which are among the earliest Buddhist monuments in the world. Back on board, enjoy breathtaking views of the Akauk Mountains as you continue cruising towards Pyay. Day 11 - Myanaung

Disembark in Myanaung for a walking tour past well-preserved colonial houses and on to the bustling market. the town originally served as a transshipment point for cargo being moved between Upper and Lower Burma. (B,L,D)

Day 12 - Zalon - Danuphyu

Cruise south along the Irrawaddy Delta to the town of Zalon where you'll have a guided tour, visiting the tropical gardens. This afternoon, cruise to Danuphyu. (B,L,D)

Day 13 - Danuphyu

Visit the Monastery of Maha Bandula and a home cheroot-making workshop, before cruising to Maubin. (B,L,D)

Day 14 - Maubin

Maubin is home to a number of universities and Buddhist pagodas. Enjoy a walking tour, during which you'll learn about the town's history. Visit the local market before returning to the ship. (B,L,D)

Day 15 - Yangon

See the sights of Yangon on a morning tour, including the Sule Pagoda and Bogyoke Market. Like a Local - This afternoon, visit the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda. Farewell Dinner on board this evening. (B,L,D)

After breakfast, disembark and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
